My wife and I took the 3 week A1 Portuguese lessons with Lisbon Language cafe. We loved it! It was important for us to find a small class size so we’d be able to participate and receive frequent feedback. And only 3 weeks later we already find ourselves confident in using the language in public. We plan on signing up for the next A2 course ASAP. Obrigado! Lisbon Language Café (and specifically Frederico, in my case) has been such a positive experience for me since arriving in Lisbon. I couldn’t do the intensive courses because of work obligations so instead we’ve continued to do a class a week online 1-1. It’s been so helpful to build my confidence and fill in the gaps in my knowledge as I’d never learnt formally. The flexibility was key but also Frederico’s relaxed style and focus on the most valuable/helpful elements. I just wish I could find more time to speak Portuguese but the guidance and materials provided have given me all I need to advance confidently so far. Last year I did a two weeks intensive group course right after my arrival to Lisbon at the Language Café. The course gave me the basics and fundamentals to get a solid understanding of the language. 5 months later I started taking individual classes which have been helping me a lot. The one-on-one environment lets you room to speak without being hesitant, and your teacher can focus on you only. Frederico, the teacher, can estimate the students' level very well and challenges but never pushes the student's ability to speak and understand conversations.The materials are structured very well, and each student receives an online account to listen to podcasts and train vocabulary strategically. I have had very positive experiences at the Lisbon Language Cafe and can only recommend this place if you want to learn Portuguese. I was shocked at how hard Portuguese was for me to understand. But I was also surprised at how much easier it became when I signed up for classes at Lisbon Language Cafe. Frederico is a great teacher--patient, encouraging and really tuned in to what individual students and the class need. His lesson plans were organized and a good balance of practical things to know for living in Portugal, as well as conversation and grammar. Taking both private lessons with Frederico and also participating in two conversational group lessons per week really helped me improve my Portuguese in a way that was interesting and fun. As an English language teacher myself, I got a lot of new ideas for how to structure conversation classes. I highly recommend Lisbon Language Cafe if you want a stimulating, interactive, and fun way to learn language. I thoroughly enjoyed all the other students and instructors I worked with. I took the A1 Portuguese from scratch intensive course and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Portuguese in Lisbon. Frederico is a fantastic teacher. His calm and patient demeanor along with his clear and easy to follow teaching method made this class a very enjoyable way to learn. I have attempted to teach myself Portuguese multiple times over the years and, after taking this course, I can honestly say that this is the first time that I have felt that I had any actual command of the language. Unfortunately they are extremely busy with a lot on their plates and could not find a place for me even with my open schedule. I will have to look elsewhere to continue past A1. Love this school. Took an A1 class and now continuing with private 1-1s. I've learned so much in just one 2-week intensive that made me way more confident and competent speaking Portuguese. I have been learning Portuguese with the Lisbon Language Café for 8 months now and am looking forward to many more. I had such a great time in this class. Frederico's approach is easy and fun. He equips you with a lot of information. Do your homework!! He even had class online when I was ill and couldn't make it in person. His printouts he gave me still come in use. This class gave me the courage to try speaking in my daily life, even with errors, and I understand much more. I had a great time in this class. Estou praticando mais. Obrigado! For me the Lisbon Language Cafe represents the perfect balance between a formal and informal learning experience. Every lesson is structured with a specific learning objective in mind with a focus on developing conversation skill in a fun way versus passing an exam. I highly recommend taking a class! I took classes for two weeks in Portuguese, both the individual lessons (with Frederico) and the group conversational lessons (with both Frederico and Susanna). I liked how quickly they were able to schedule me in (within a day), and how adaptable the individual lessons were (I already spoke Spanish, and we were able to go on that and skip many things I had already learned, such as the difference between ser and estar).
