Frederico’s expertise and teaching style impressed me whereas he also created a supportive and engaging learning environment, emphasizing vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills (however also making it practical for daily use!). It's hands down- the best language school in Portugal! If you're looking to learn Portuguese in Lisbon, this is defiantly your place! Been taking Portuguese classes here for more than 2 years now, and couldn't be happier! Lisbon Language Café (and specifically Frederico, in my case) has been such a positive experience for me since arriving in Lisbon. I couldn’t do the intensive courses because of work obligations so instead we’ve continued to do a class a week online 1-1. It’s been so helpful to build my confidence and fill in the gaps in my knowledge as I’d never learnt formally. The flexibility was key but also Frederico’s relaxed style and focus on the most valuable/helpful elements. I just wish I could find more time to speak Portuguese but the guidance and materials provided have given me all I need to advance confidently so far. My wife and I took 10 lessons with Frederico (plus one free trial lesson), and he was fantastic. As a teacher myself, I could tell that he has put a lot of effort into developing his teaching strategy, and his temperament is friendly and easygoing. ***Excellent*** I took the A1 Portuguese from Scratch course over 2 weeks - It was one of the best experiences I've had since coming to Portugal! Frederico and Susanna are fantastic teachers and all of the lessons were well planned, engaging and good fun. The small group size of 4 students worked perfectly and there were lots of opportunities to speak, listen and work directly with F and S. While my Portuguese is still far from perfect, i feel that the course has provided me with a firm understanding of the basic structure of the language. As a result, I am a lot more confident when speaking in everyday situations. I will be returning to the Language Cafe for conversational classes over the coming weeks. I have been having one to one lessons with Frederico for some time both online and in person. He is always well prepared and challenging. I enjoy my lessons and also feel I am developing my language skills. This is not the first language I have learned or taken tuition in and I would definitely recommend this service as one of the best. I was shocked at how hard Portuguese was for me to understand. But I was also surprised at how much easier it became when I signed up for classes at Lisbon Language Cafe. Frederico is a great teacher--patient, encouraging and really tuned in to what individual students and the class need. His lesson plans were organized and a good balance of practical things to know for living in Portugal, as well as conversation and grammar. Taking both private lessons with Frederico and also participating in two conversational group lessons per week really helped me improve my Portuguese in a way that was interesting and fun. As an English language teacher myself, I got a lot of new ideas for how to structure conversation classes. Classes at Lisbon Language Cafe are small, personalised and very enjoyable! I first took an intensive two-week group course, and am continuing with private tutoring. The teacher ensures all students understand and are on the same page. The school also provides fantastic online resources to continue learning once your course has finished! This intensive course is actually intensive, which means you actually learn a few basics that you can use to communicate on the street or in a café. You learn to introduce yourself and your family to third parties. But the three hours per day alone are not enough: You should plan at least one hour for homework every day in the afternoon.
